Overcome Your Fears

This week I was flying beside a woman who had never flown before and was having a panic attack. She was crying, praying and making some really weird sounds as the plane took off. I think she held her breath during the one hour flight and jumped at every sound the plane made.

When we were safely on the ground, she said that it really wasn't so bad and admitted that she would fly again.

When you do something new, does this ever happen to you, even in a small way. Remembering the quote from the Course in Miracles always helps me when I do some of the crazy things I do (like parachuting or flying a powered parachute). "If you only knew who walks beside you, every day, on this path that you have chosen, you would never experience fear or doubt again."

Professional Speaker, Sue Glasco, recently offered this advice in SpeakerNetNews.com. Great advice:

When you reach voice mail instead of a person, make it easy for them to phone you back. Remember that while you know your own name and number, the person you are trying to reach does not. Don’t rattle it off quickly. Say that number slowly. Then say, “Let me repeat that.” And say it again even more slowly. They may be grabbing a pen or paper the first time. There are times when I have had to replay an answering machine message ten times to hear a rapidly delivered garbled number. By then, I am quite upset with the caller. Always say your last name. I am amused by someone who thinks I only know one Laura or one Robert.

PrintWhatYouLike.com is a very clever tool that can help you print just the parts of a Web page you want to save. Go to their site and enter the URL of the page you want. It will be displayed and you can click on whole sections of the page — ads, columns, headers, graphics, lists — and remove them. (Conversely, you can click on the part you want and isolate it to remove everything else.) After removing all the unwanted parts, print what’s left or save to PDF. Handy when the page you want doesn’t have a "Format for print" link.

Need Stock Photos and Art for Pennies

Many times I want to use photos on my blog or website, but don't want to borrow (steal) them from other websites. This can get you in a lot of hot water and this may help: This info was posted on Speakernetnews by speaker Donna Gunter:

Most of the illustrations that you see in my newsletters and on my site come from a stock photo company, Dreamstime (www.dreamstime.com).

Instead of having to invest several hundred dollars in a clip art membership for a year, I can buy a small number of credits as I need them from Dreamstime. At the least expensive level, it’s $20 for 20 credits, or about $1 per image. If you buy a higher number of credits, there is a price break.

Dreamstime offers both photos and illustrations. Most of the royalty-free images are 1 credit, and the higher-resolution ones that are suitable for printing run 4-5 credits. The quality of the images is wonderful, and their stock isn’t comprised of images that you frequently see elsewhere online.

If you need images for your Web site or blog, I highly recommend that you start with Dreamstime.

The service puts a real 42-cent stamp on the envelope and prints the address with a handwritten look. One can choose from over a dozen handwriting styles. You can send a text message to Google at 466453 (spells Google on your keypad), and within a second or two it replies back to you with the information you need. You can type in a person’s name plus city and state and get their contact information, including address. You can text something like “sushi 78745” and find all the sushi places in that zip code.

You can also get weather reports by texting “weather (name of city),” along with sports scores, stock quotes, dictionary definitions, movie listings, and driving directions.
